As it happens, some of our best friends in the Edinburgh music scene are ladies. Hence the rather anachronistically entitled: Acoustic Edinburgh Ladies Night!

Your compere for the evening is the wonderful and talented Kat Healey, who will also be playing the opening set. Joining her will be Becca Fox, Inge, Carrie Mac, and showing dedicatation to the cause, Susanna Macdonald will be not only DJ-ing through the evening, but also headlining. Susanna has just finished an enormously successful run in the festival with her own show Experimentalista!, which she is taking to London’s Leicester Square theatre soon. She has been showered with praise from the press for her flamboyant style, her musical intensity, and her sharply observed writing. Bluesbunny described her as “A national treasure, no less. She performs with the dedication of a psychopathic Sunday School teacher. No one does light and shade like Susanna Macdonald (even if she is a bit scary)“.

I don’t know about you, but the election and the snooker started to blur into one for me the last few days, and I started to forget which one was a sporting tournament. Then I realised I needed some quality live music to get my head back together. Luckily, we have an Acoustic Edinburgh pre-election special* for you this month!

Kicking the night off, we have three short-but-sweet sets from DOUGLAS KAY, followed by ZOE MULFORD, and then rounding off the first half of the night, SUNSET STUDIOS (featuring Ned Goodwin and Andrew Valentine). The wonderful LISA RIGBY will join us for a slightly longer set, and then LORELEI LOVERIDGE will perform her debut as our headline for the night. Through her music, Lorelei tells of the incredible travels she has been on over the past decade or more, observing the boundaries between eastern and western cultures from a first-hand perspective. She is just the person to give us a bit of perspective this week!

However, Paul and I have decided that we need to make one change because of comments from some of our regulars and to improve things a bit for our headline artists… We’re moving the whole night one hour earlier. This should make it easier for those of you who can’t stay out until midnight to nevertheless see our headline act. For the rest of you night owls, it’ll give you a chance to stay after the live music is over to listen to some more tunes from my laptop, have a few drinks and chat to our artists.

So… from this Tuesday, we’re going to try really hard to get the doors open by 7.30, and have the first act on at 8, and the live music done by 11.

To usher in our new format, we’ve got a real stateside treat for y’all. All the way from Nashville, hot from a live session and interview on the Bob Harris show on BBC Radio 2, and stopping by Edinburgh as part of her UK tour, we have the wonderful Stephanie Lambring headlining this week! Stephanie will be performing her particular brand of heartfelt acoustic Americana from her new album, Lonely to Alone. Stephanie has an incredibly beautiful voice and a wonderfully natural, understated songwriting style. It’s going to be a genuine pleasure to have her play for us in the intimate atmosphere of Medina.

Joining our headline act this month will be: the Stu Goodall Band, Calum Carlyle, James Ross and Paul Gilbody. With this kind of talent, you don’t want to forget to come one hour earlier than usual!
