We like to think that if there’s a great musician, talented lyricist,or fabulous singer within easy distance of Edinburgh, then we’ll have had them play for us in Medina at some time or other, but occasionally we realise how wrong we are. This month, for example, we have a stunning line up of artists, all making their Medina debut in their current form. Every one of our acts this month takes modern indie folk in a different direction, combining it with blues, jazz, or pop and demonstrating just how much more there is to hear…

Finishing off a great night this week, the GARY STEWART BAND are traveling up from Leeds to launch their new EP “Tables, Trees andTripods” at Acoustic Edinburgh. This should be a real treat, as Gary is bringing his full band up for the celebrations!

Hope to see you all there,

Si

There’s quite a buzz about our line-up for this month. Our headline act, in particular, has been blazing a trail through the local music scene in recent months - one of Scotland’s most extraordinary musical talents, CHRIS BRADLEY is equally at home composing orchestral scores, playing guitar for local heroes Aberfeldy, or producing some of the best acoustic rock and roll you’re likely to hear. This week, Chris will be bringing us tracks from his eagerly anticipated debut solo album, Voices. Having seen Chris play many times over the past few months, I can tell you that this set is not to be missed! The other acts we have playing are equally exciting. We have sly acoustic grooves from our own PAUL GILBODY, followed by accomplished stripped-down blues-folk from ANDERS INGRAM. Our first set ends with a masterclass in layered vocals from loop-pedal genius WOUNDED KNEE. Finally, prior to our headline act, two of Edinburgh’s most respected musicians, DAMON THOMPSON and EMILY SCOTT, join forces for as pine-tingling set - expect beautiful guitar work and other-worldly vocals. As usual, you can check out all our artists by following the links above.See you all there!Si

Acoustic Edinburgh - this Tuesday - Martin & James headline

Last month was one of the busiest ever for Acoustic Edinburgh, with one regular event and two specials. Thank you to everyone who came down to one of the gigs, and a very special thanks to those of you who made all three! The evening down at the St Brides was a particularly fun one for me, and we raised a sizable chunk of money for Oxfam thanks to all those who managed to find their way to Dalry and the generous bands who turned up to play for free.

Of all the great music last month, however, one act in particular stood out for Paul and I. During the Spectrum festival in the Queen’s Hall, a pair of singer-songwriters with an uncanny sense of melody took to the stage - they produced a masterclass on how to use two voices in an acoustic set. We knew straight away that we had to get them back. Their names are MARTIN & JAMES, and we’re very pleased indeed to have them headline this month alongside our usual eclectic mix of musical talent from acoustic funk to original folk. Prepare to be impressed… these guys are going to go far!

As usual, you can check out all our artists by following the links above.

See you all there!

Acoustic Edinburgh - this Tuesday - Jakil headline

This week’s headline act have all the signs of stars in the making. Their infectious energy and ear-catching songwriting have won them fans in all the right places. For example, The Scotsman has called them “the best young band in Scotland”, they’ve been getting airplay on Radio 1, and they won Forth One’s “One to Watch” award. When they played Acoustic Edinburgh last year, we knew we had to get them back for a headline set - as long as we could catch them before they were filling out stadiums, of course!

Kat Healy

Joining them on the Medina stage is another great line-up of top-notch acoustic performers. Expect scruffy blues, spell-binding vocals, and beautifully crafted acoustic folk.

Quite a night… you’d be a fool to miss it!

As ever, in case you won’t take my word for it, check all our acts out by following the links above.

See you there,
Si

P.S. We’ve got some exciting news coming soon about some very special events in the pipeline. More details to follow, but keep your diaries free for the 29th of April!

Acoustic Edinburgh - this Tuesday - Amplifico headline

To say that there is a buzz about this band’s headline act is a bit like saying that Edinburgh has been a bit breezy recently. They have just today released their debut album worldwide, and it was immediately made Album of the Month on Radio 1; last week they were on the front cover of the Scotsman magazine; their myspace plays are approaching one and a quarter million. Having seen them recently seen them electrify a sell-out crowd at Club Ego (the queue was reportedly down the street), we are very pleased that they approached us to play Acoustic Edinburgh this month to celebrate their album going onto the shelves. This is especially appropriate since they played their very first gig on the Acoustic Edinburgh stage almost 4 years ago…

They are, of course, the astonishing AMPLIFICO.

Joining them this week is an equally stunning line-up including everything from smoky jazz vocals to catchy pop (all the way from Australia!). Check all our acts out by following the links above.

See you there,

Acoustic Edinburgh - this Tuesday - The Graeme Mearns Band headline

It seems like ages since December, and the last Acoustic Edinburgh. We took January off because even we aren’t keen enough to organise an event for the the 1st of January. Instead, we’re seeing in 2008 with an all-star line-up for pancake day…

Sometimes we’re extremely lucky with who is available for a particular month and this is one of those extra-special occasions when it really is the case that any of our performers could have been the headline act. However, we did have to choose a headline, and it’s going to be the extraordinary whirlwind of attitude, wry humour, and in-your-face talent that is THE GRAEME MEARNS BAND. With a brilliant debut album under their belt, this three-piece is going from strength to strength. I last saw them headlining the main stage at the Queen’s Hall and wow… words fail…

In addition, we’ve got some incredible spine-tingling vocal talent from the likes of AMY DUNCAN and EMILY SCOTT, country-tinged folk magic from INGE MCILROY, and of course our very own PAUL GILBODY’s acoustic groovery to kick things off.

As ever, if you want to listen to any of our performers’ music online, just check out the links above.

Believe me - this is an unmissable night. Get your pancakes in early and run, don’t walk, down to Medina on Tuesday.

See you there,
Si

P.S. I had a ludicrous series of pancake-related puns in the original version of this post. Thankfully I saw sense and tossed them all out.

Acoustic Edinburgh - this Tuesday - Floozie Soo headline

From Si at 11:24 pm December 2nd, 2007

Featuring: Floozie Soo, Chris Bradley, John Sloan, Scott McMahon, Paul Gilbody & Tracey Braithwaite
From: 9.00-12.00, Free Entry

Floozie Soo

Regulars at Acoustic Edinburgh will be able to take one look at our line-up for this week and know instantly that we are in for a fantastic night of top-class musicianship, great banter, beautiful vocals, and accomplished songcraft. With a veritable roll-call of Acoustic Edinburgh alumni (plus one brilliant newcomer - to us at least), if you head down to Medina this Tuesday you’re going to be in very capable musical hands for the duration…

Topping the night off is a hugely welcome return of Scotland’s most laid-back blues/jazz supergroup, FLOOZIE SOO. With more wit and wisdom than is reasonable for their combined age (which is considerable, so that’s saying something), the Floozies effortlessly transport you to a place of warmth, wry humour, and smoky foot-tapping grooves. As they themselves put it: lazy jazz… lazier blues.

As ever, you can check them out, and all the other artists gracing our stage this month by following the links above.

See you all there!
Si

P.S. We will be taking a break next month, so this’ll be the last Acoustic Edinburgh until February… don’t miss it!
