Acoustic Edinburgh – Tue 1st Nov – Bob Hillary and The Massive Mellow headline

2010 November 1
by Si

We’re very happy to finally have a headline set this month from the wonderful Bob Hillary and the Massive Mellow. Bob has been wowing critics with his new outfit that he’s created after spending six years fronting The Ruffness. With a style that bridges rootsy folk with dub and world music influences, Bob’s music has just the kind of warmth that is perfect for a cold autumn evening cosying up in Medina!

“In a world of crazy music that assaults our ears with bleeps, glitches, and roaring, there is a need for something that grounds all that electricity. This album does that, as it is rooted in and coloured by the natural environment. The sounds of evening crickets and lapping water recorded just outside Edinburgh weave between songs layered with uplifting trumpets, mellow organs, rounded synthesisers and intricate guitar picking. At times there are elements of Paul Simon, Pink Floyd, and The Cat Empire, and, David Gray. Bob’s distinctive voice clearly carries lyrics worthy of reflection on warming melodies and the songwriting throughout is excellent” The Skinny

This month, Bob will be joined on the lineup with sets from Acoustic Edinburgh favourites, Andi Neate, Erin Todd and K-Lab.
